How does the Instructor-Led version of Thinkwell Work? It's as easy as 1 - 2 - 3.
What Parents Are Saying. . .
"We absolutely love Thinkwell. The program is plug and play so the kids can work independently without parental involvement. The curriculum is thorough and comprehensive and has bolstered my kids' understanding over the years. It is easily a strong enough platform to be THE MAIN and ONLY math program and will give kids a rock solid foundation. The professor is entertaining and articulates the material very clearly. Thinkwell is an EXCELLENT PROGRAM THAT WE USE YEAR AFTER YEAR!!!””
– Karen D.
"My high school students are using Thinkwell Algebra and PreAlgebra this year in our homeschool. This is our first experience with this product and I have to say I am impressed. Both my son and my daughter enjoy Professor Burger's method of teaching and his lighthearted delivery. My kids have asked me not to switch from Thinkwell as their main curriculum. As a parent I appreciate that I don't have to beg my children to do math. They do it on their own with no complaints. That is a huge compliment in itself.”
– L. Jones
"I love Thinkwell math! My son and I think Professor Burger is awesome. We tried a few different math programs but nothing compares to Thinkwell. The concepts are presented in a way that makes them so much easier to understand. I go through the lectures and problems with my son most of the time and I am finally learning Geometry (my nemesis in high school and college). Professor Burger uses humor which makes it even better. We will definitely continue to use Thinkwell. I am so grateful to have found it!"

Frequently Asked Questions About Thinkwell's Algebra 1

How do Thinkwell instructor-led courses work?

You and your student will get a weekly email with an orientation & warm-up video and a lesson plan. Your student watches short, 5-10 minute online video lessons and then completes the automatically graded exercises. Students get instant correct-answer feedback. The live instructor is available by email, and will have weekly virtual office hours.

When does the course start?

The course has a specific start and end date, stated above. You can purchase and register before the start date. Late enrollments are accepted for up to two weeks after the start of the course.

What math courses should a student take?

A typical sequence of secondary math courses completed by a college-bound student is: Grade 6 Math > Grade 7 Math > Grade 8 Math > Algebra 1 > Geometry > Algebra 2 > Precalculus. For students looking to include Calculus as part of their high school curriculum and are able to complete Grade 7 Math in 6th grade, the sequence can be: Grade 7 Math > Prealgebra > Algebra 1 > Geometry > Algebra 2 > Precalculus > Calculus.

Is Thinkwell’s Algebra 1 appropriate for my accelerated student?

For advanced students, check out our Honors Algebra 1 course.

Does my student get school credit for Thinkwell’s Algebra 1?

Only schools are accredited and Thinkwell is not a school, though many accredited schools use Thinkwell. If you're coordinating studies with a school or organization, please check with them about awarding credit for a Thinkwell course.

Does Thinkwell's Algebra 1 meet state standards?

Thinkwell courses are built to national standards to be inclusive of all states. Some states set standards for what topics should be taught in a particular course. Thinkwell does not have a course version for each state. Websites such as www.achieve.org can help you determine your state's standards.

What if my student would like access to the course after it is over?

You can purchase extra time in one-month, three-month, and six-month increments.

Can I share access with more than one student?

A subscription can only accommodate one student per username and password; additional students need to purchase separate access. This allows parents to keep track of each student's progress and grades.

How long does it take to complete Thinkwell’s Algebra 1 course?

The dates of the course are stated above. The course is divided into Semester 1 and Semester 2, each sold separately.

Can I see my grade?

Thinkwell’s course software tracks everything your student does. When logged in, your student can click "My Grades" to see their progress.

How are grades calculated?

The course grade is calculated this way: Quizzes: 40%, Chapter tests: 40%, Final Exam: 20%

Can I get a transcript or a certificate of completion?

Yes, both a certificate of completion and grade transcript will be provided at the end of each semester. Thinkwell will track and present a number score earned by the student, not a letter grade.

If I change my mind and want to do a different math course, can I change?

If you discover that you should be in a different course, contact techsupport@thinkwell.com within one week of purchase and we will move you to the appropriate course.

Can I print the exercises?

Yes, but completing the exercises online provides immediate correct answer feedback and automatic scoring, so we recommend answering the exercises online.

Are exercises multiple choice?

Most of the exercises are multiple choice and they are graded automatically with correct-answer solutions.

Is Thinkwell's Algebra 1 built on "continuous review"?

Thinkwell's Algebra 1 is carefully constructed to build on previous knowledge, reinforcing key concepts every step of the way. It is not only a reflection of empirically effective instruction, but also reflects Dr. Burger’s philosophies learned over a career of teaching mathematics, emphasizing a solid foundation that addresses why students need to learn certain concepts. Finally, Thinkwell's Algebra 1 is intentionally designed to work for a wide variety of learning styles.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, we offer a risk-free 14 day money-back guarantee.

How does my school review this course?

Should your school need to review a Thinkwell course for any reason, have the school contact techsupport@thinkwell.com and we can provide them access to a demo site, or provide you with a table of contents.

How do refunds work?

If a student leaves the course within 14 days of the start of the course, a full refund is granted. If a student leaves between 15 days and 40 days after the start of the course, a 50% refund will be granted.  No refunds after 41 days after the start of the course. Students leaving the course must contact the instructor by email.  Students dropping an instructor-led course with no refund may retake the same or a different instructor-led course if offered in the future for only the cost of the $50 registration fee.
