Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
What is on the CD-ROMs?
Only the video lectures are on the CD-ROMs. They number between approximately 150 and 300 ten-minute videos, depending on the course. They do not contain exercises, notes or any other materials, only the videos. They are the same videos that are in the online subscription. The CD-ROMs are useful if the student:
- has internet bandwidth constraints.
- would like to watch the videos without accessing the internet.
- wants to have access to the videos after the online subscription has expired.
Can I purchase the CD-ROMs without purchasing the online subscription?
No. The CD-ROMs are an optional purchase, but they cannot be purchased alone.
What is in the workbook?
Most of the math courses have an optional workbook with illustrated notes, worked out examples, and exercises that correspond to each video lecture. While all these items are included in the online subscription, there are some additional exercises. The workbooks include an answer key for the odd-numbered exercises.
Some courses have "printed notes," which are the same notes that are included in the online subscription.
When does my 12-month online subscription start?
You have instant access to your online subscription. When purchasing online you will register your student and the subscription starts at that time.

Are Thinkwell courses appropriate for my accelerated student?
Yes. Most Thinkwell courses are first-year college caliber; however, the topics of those courses typically are the same for senior high school. Often a college will cover a course more quickly and in greater depth than a high school. Math courses before College Algebra are considered developmental courses in college.
Does my student get high school or college credit for Thinkwell courses?
No, only schools are accredited and Thinkwell is not a school, though many accredited schools use Thinkwell.
Do Thinkwell courses meet state standards?
Each state sets standards for what concepts and topics should be taught in a particular course. While Thinkwell does not have a course version for each state, customers have not had problems covering the topics with the standard Thinkwell contents. Websites such as www.achieve.org can help you determine your state's standards.
What is the difference between Thinkwell AP courses and regular Thinkwell courses?
Sometimes these two versions are very similar in the topics they cover. In some courses the content is customized to only cover AP topics. If you intend for your student to take the AP exam, then the AP version is right for you. If not, you won't miss anything with the regular version.
What if my student needs access to a course for more than 12 months?
You can purchase extra time in one-month, three-month, and six-month increments.
Can I share access with more than one student?
The courses are designed and licensed to accommodate one student per username and password; additional students need to purchase online access. This allows parents to keep track of each student's progress and grades.
How long does it take to complete a Thinkwell course?
The pace of your course is up to you, but most courses are designed to be completed in one school year (at the college level most of the courses would be completed in one semester). Biology, Chemistry, Economics and Calculus are equivalent to two-semester college courses.
How are grades tracked?
Thinkwell courses track everything your student does. When logged in, your student can click "My Grades" to see their progress.
Can I get a transcript?
You can contact firstname.lastname@example.org to request a file with your student's grades.
What if I choose the wrong math course, can I change?
If you discover that you should be in a different course, contact email@example.com within one week of purchase and we will move you to the appropriate course.
Can I print the exercises?
Yes, but completing the exercises online provides immediate correct answer feedback and automatic scoring, so we recommend doing the exercises online.
Are exercises multiple choice?
Most of the exercises are multiple choice, though some math courses include free-response questions. All question types are graded automatically.
Are the math courses built on "continuous review?"
Our courses are carefully constructed to build on previous knowledge, reinforcing key concepts every step of the way. The courses are not only a reflection of empirically effective instruction, but also are influenced by the world-class instructors, who are leaders in their respective fields. The courses also emphasize building a solid foundation that addresses why students need to learn certain concepts. Finally, Thinkwell courses are intentionally designed to work for a wide variety of learning styles.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes, we offer a full refund within three business days of purchase, no questions asked.
What is acceptable performance on the exams?
As a home-school parent, you decide the level of performance you want your student to achieve; the course does not limit access to topics based on performance on prior topics. In courses with practice exams included, we include a printable Answer Key and Recommended Study Plan that helps focus students on topics where they need more work.
How does my school review this course?
Should your school need to review a Thinkwell course for any reason, have the school contact firstname.lastname@example.org and we can provide them access to a demo site.
